Sprang Brake

Spring break this year will probably be one of the least eventful ones I’ve had but I nonetheless a much needed “break” from school. It started off awesome with Peter’s birthday celebrations and hiking that included crossing at least 5 streams. The past couple of days, I might be coming home tired after staring at a computer screen all day but it’s still good. Note to self: bring band-aids whenever working with a load of papers. My spring break started off with me wondering how I would last being at home for an entire week after something that happened but now, besides the food, family has been good. What makes it all the more interesting is probably my cutie pie dog. Here are some things I have noticed changing since Lexi has entered our lives a little more than a month ago:

1) Somehow she makes me wake up ten times earlier than I ever would on any day. That doesn’t happen often. I don’t even wake up that much earlier for Peter!

2) Somehow she makes my dad sound like a crazy man talking to himself when she’s with him. It’s as if he was having an entire conversation with her by speaking for her too. It’s interesting to hear the things he says. Then again, she makes the entire family stop what they’re doing and give her a belly rub without even asking us to. And sometimes the entire family ends up going out together with her just to watch her do her bathroom business.

3) She doesn’t appreciate much fruits and vegetables. However, she LOVES bread and I mean any kind of bread, even the ends of loaves that my family never eats. When she doesn’t like a fruit, she’ll rub her face into it…. Odd.

4) She hates water. During our hike we had to cross streams and she puts one foot in and runs away. When we crossed, she didn’t swim when there were no rocks under her. She just scrambled for the next rock in sight. At one point, she got to walk on the log-bridge while I waded into butt-high water, just so that we could get across the stream.

5) She does a lot of things halfway. Tried teaching her rollover, she does half of one. When we play fetch, she does half the job- runs to get the ball then usually runs back with it to me but then runs away again. She plays dead half way too- everything else but the tail is still. It’s usually still wagging because of the treat dangling in front of her.

Anyway, there’s a ton more I can say about Lexi/Lexicon/Lex/Cutie Pie/Pretty baby/whatever we feel like calling her at that moment. All I can really say though is that I never thought I’d have a dog right now but she’s definitely been God’s blessing to our family. Amazing how she, without doing it purposely, can bring my family closer together.

Pros and Cons of a smart dog

Pros- very easy to teach tricks to.

Cons- learns how to get out of her kennel unless you lock EVERY single latch.

I am forever her house maid.

Rainy Days

I love rain most of the time but lately… it’s just been such a hassle to do things in the rain that I’m beginning to wish there was less rain, especially when I have to take Lexi out to pee. I now have special pants just to walk her that I can get as dirty as I need. I really hope it rains tomorrow morning until noon so I don’t have to run though!!! :D:D Rainy days are always more sleepy.

This weekend was great. Got to have my MSF time on Friday. Always absolutely enjoy every single moment we’re altogether.

Saturday I got to witness God’s amazing guidance and strength through the youth and the Praise Night they put on for the church and to outreach. How amazing it is to see young people enjoying God together and doing so much to serve Him. Also— I have to admit I felt a bit old because of how enthusiastically some other younger kids sang throughout worship. But I know that should be the way we worship God— full of joy and enthusiasm and with everything we have. It sounded amazing though when I’d close my eyes and hear all the voices singing and know that that’s how Heaven is going to be. After that, I got to see old friends again :). <3

Sunday rolls around with the rain and I’ll always enjoy worship practice, even if they are ridiculously early sometimes. Extra time to spend with people I love. One thing about today stood out the most though. My mom was napping in her usual laid back chair with the throw. I wanted to nap too so I got a jacket to put over myself and napped. Sometime in the middle of the nap I felt someone put a blanket over me and I realized my mom woke up to find me napping and put it over me. I felt like a small child again haha. But I guess I’ll always be that small child to my parents no matter how old I actually am. Now back in LB and wishing Monday and Tuesday will pass by quickly so my springbreak can start ASAP!!

Training myself and a dog

After three walks, we may have finally mastered the art of dog walking next to owner and not in front. WOohooo! That alone was a feat. Now, the energy level in the house is less and she’s peacefully sleeping away. Win.

Now on to being welcoming to guests.. this is in preparation for MSF soon!

Honor Thy Parents

Even when they wake you up just to make you wash their cars. I don’t know what possessed my dad to think he needs to have his car washed today but 20 minutes after falling back asleep after walking the dog, he HAS to wake me up at 8 AM. He doesn’t ask if I want to help him wash the car, he said I must. It even looks like it’s about to rain later today -_-. Honor thy parents’ wishes. Love them.

By the way, is there ANY dog chew toy that is indestructible, or at least harder to destroy?! Lexi destroys all her toys in less than a day. From now on, Lexi is only getting old and unwanted things.

Lent already started.. oopz

I couldn’t think of something I would be able to or even want to give up for Lent. I had an excuse for everything

Sweets- No, because MSF is starting a new format that includes desserts! I… can’t.. not :(
TV- I could, but I didn’t want to.. not the best excuse I know.
Naps- I could, but I knew there would be days I would “need” a nap in order to keep up in class.
Texting- That’d mean wasting my parent’s money for one month of the unlimited text…  Actually, more like I need it to keep in touch with people I don’t see everyday.

Anyway, I just had excuses for them all. I then realized today though that I have been trying to wake up earlier this past week to do devotionals and be more productive in my day. Well then, I guess giving up precious sleeping in time to be with God sounds like a great idea to commit too. I’m just kidding, I don’t guess it is, I know it is. And He has blessed me with great devotionals/teachings. If you know me, you know I am not a morning person, so this will be interestingly good.

Wednesday

After my best Tuesday so far this semester, I don’t have my running class this morning! Makes this week even better. However, we are required to run 2 miles ourselves at least today, so here I go. Good thing I have Lexi to keep me company on this run. She has been sleeping though the entire three hours since I’ve been up. Lazy.

Prayer is amazing. Praying to my God has helped me this week to find joy in everything, even biostats lab. I don’t enjoy it still but at least I’m not so hateful towards it. Prayer has also helped MSF leaders come up with some great ideas. I’m so excited and I can’t wait for the planning to begin. Prayer helped us to pick up ourselves from last week and dust off the old layer of issues and start over again. Love it.
